What's new at Anansi Beat?
Warmer times are just around the corner... doesn't seem like it some days but it really is. Which means that this is a perfect time to get some rhythm and movement to prepare for your times outdoors. Nii Ardey is shortly to be starting new sessions of drumming and dancing lessons in the traditional style of Ghana, West Africa.
Drummers... you won't need to have a Ghanaian drum to take these classes... Kpanlogos are provided.
Dancers... each series of classes will show you a traditional dance from Ghana; not just a series of moves but an entire song. To the tune of live African drumming, you will learn a lively traditional African dance with an eye toward how it is done in performance.
Both sets of classes are appropriate for new or experienced drummers and dancers. Advanced classes are also available for those who wish to continue their journey on this path. Avid students of Nii Ardey's may find themselves on stage with Nii Ardey in some of his upcoming performances. It is a great opportunity.
Also June in the city of roses means it is time for the Rose Festival. Keep an eye out during the Grand Floral Parade on June 12 as a contingent of Ghanaians and our friends once again march. Well... when it comes to Ghanaians... it isn't so much a march as a dance. We'll be out in festive tribal garb and will be drumming and dancing the entire length of the parade route. If you will be at the parade... don't worry... you can't miss us. ;-)
